Trellix fix.
 Trellix Web
Introduction

This site was developed with Trellix Web software. Although a simple, yet powerfull, html tool, it may hold some 'secrets' to the user. This page offers advice and tricks about this software.

Trellix Web Design Resources:
Trellix is EOF (End Of Life). Still, you will find some resources on the Internet that can help you:
TxBigMall offers good stuff like a PopUp Window Maker.

Trellix Web for FortuneCity:
If you have problems connecting to the server, then check your Internet options. Typically, users on a company network that go through a Firewall or a Proxy server may not be able to publish. Contact your Network Administrator to check which restrictions have been set.
More information on publishing at FortuneCity is available from Trellix support.

Trellix Web for CompuServe:
Trellix Web for CompuServe is only supported for CompuServe 2000 accounts. Classic CompuServe members should use the Web Publishing Wizard. Here is my workaround for Classic CompuServe members using Trellix Web:

Part 1: Preview your site in Trellix
1. Select 'Publish' in the Trellix menu and choose 'Preview' in the 'Publish Web site' window,
2. Trellix will now create the files in a your temporary files directory (e.g. c:\temp)
all files will be created in a temporary subdirectory (e.g. c:\temp\~tl2),
3. Copy these files to a directory of your choice,
4. Close the Trellix 'Publish Web site' window
all files will be removed from the temporary files directory,

Part 2: Publish your site with the Publishing Wizard
5. Start the Web Publishing Wizard and select the files in the directory of your choice.

Trellix Web and Proxy or Firewall:
Publishing with Trellix Web does not work from an corporate network protected by Firewalls or through a proxy servers that block ftp. Trellix will only publish if you can connect with clear (i.e. direct, straightforward) ftp connections. It does not have the intelligence built in to first authenticate to an intermediate server (like most advanced ftp tools). The workarounds suggested by Trellix support are poor.
Here is my workaround for users that need additional Firewall or Proxy support to publish:

Part 1: Install an ftp client software
1. Install a savvy windows ftp client (like WSFtp),
2. Configure the Firewall options that allow you to ftp on the Internet,

Part 2: Preview your site in Trellix
3. Select 'Publish' in the Trellix menu and choose 'Preview' in the 'Publish Web site' window,
4. Trellix will now create the files in a your temporary files directory (e.g. c:\temp)
all files will be created in a temporary subdirectory (e.g. c:\temp\~tl2),
5. Copy these files to a directory of your choice,
6. Close the Trellix 'Publish Web site' window
all files will be removed from the temporary files directory,

Part 2: Publish your site with the ftp client
7. Start the ftp client and select the files in the directory of your choice,
8. Connect to your web site (as listed in your Trellix 'Publish' web site information),
9. Transfer all the files and directories from you local system to your web site directory
10. Verify if all files have been copied.
11. If errors occur during the transmission or transfer, you may repeat Part 2 as appropriate.

Trellix Web and opening a new browser window:
To spawn a new browser window for a link (URL), you add " target="_blank at the end of the URL. Note the 'blank' (i.e. space) before the double quotes. In most cases this will work fine. Only in a few cases, formatting issues were experienced.
Detailed information on 'Link that opens new browser window' is available from Trellix support.
Please also note that some pages on this site have 'anchor' links. Trellix support tells you more about this.

Trellix Web and building a site map:
(this is based on a work around posted by Lela Whisnant and published by Trellix support)
Part A: Getting the Map from your Site.
 1. Edit and organise your map in the map area of your Trellix file, so that it has all the labels and graphics you want. Make sure you add a page that will hold the map.
2. Save your Trellix file by going to: File -- Save.
3. Preview your site. Check the box marked "Publish with a Trellix site map".
4. Copy the files called "mapimage.gif" and "mf.htm" to your local folder.
Part B: Putting the Map into a Page.
1. Edit the file 'mf.htm' (use a text editor). Copy the part that is between, and not including, the BODY tags.
2. Return to Trellix and select the page that will display the map.
3. Click where you want the map to appear, and use 'Build Your Own Web Gem'
4. Paste the html code you copied in step B-1 into the Web Gem form.
5. Click on "Files for this gem" and browse for the mapimage.gif file.
6. Find the line in your code that looks like this:
<IMG SRC="mapimage.gif" ALIGN="left" usemap="#tlxmapareas" border=0 width=187 height=80 ALT="Trellix document navigation map" >
And change it to look like this:
<IMG SRC="^GEMDIR/mapimage.gif" ALIGN="left" usemap="#tlxmapareas" border=0 width=187 height=80 ALT="Your Site Name navigation map" >
7. Choose a placeholder image:
browse for the mapimage.gif file and select it
8. Click on "Insert" to finish the web gem.
9. Uncheck the box marked "Publish with a Trellix site map" in the Publish options.

Note:
Point 7 is optional. It will show your map in Trellix Web while working on your page.

Trellix Web and '1x1.gif':
Trellix is watching you! Wonder what the '1x1.gif' file, that is published on your site, is about? It collects statistical information of your software use. According to Trellix support, they only retrieve information about 'Web Gem' use and how often your site is published. Mmm... I am not so sure about this. Deleting the file from your site should not affect your pages. While the rumor goes around that Gates (aka Windows and Internet Explorer) sniffs your PC, other companies take on the same bad habit. This only shows yet another exposure on the Internet of privacy intrusion. For sure, more 'Trojan horses' exist or will exist through graphic files. To be continued...

Trellix Web and Tellix Web Express:
Trellix Web Express is free but has limited embedded publishing support. You can only setup an account for the (sponsored) host company. The Trellix Web version is the full version with customizable embedded publishing support to any host. Great features, such as automatic password verification and update is available. Moreover, it uses the ftp protocol without boundaries.

Web site promotion and Search Engines:
Search Engines will look for Meta Tags. This information should be customized for every page on your site. In Trellix Web, when you select the page properties, just fill in all the fields and the Meta Tags will be automatically generated. Do not forget to separate the keywords by comma's.
More information about Web site promotion and an example of Meta Tags is published in the 'Web Goodies' main pages'.
